What People Think about Fusion Portable Keyboards
"[We] had the opportunity to have the Fusion at our school for 2 weeks to have some of our students give the unit a trial run on it.  I must tell you that the kids seemed to really like it.  It is user friendly, and the more you practiced on it, the easier things got.

Some of the grades that tried it out were: Grade 4 (two to three students), Grade 7 (one student), and Grade 5 (two students).  The feedback from parents that I showed the unit to was extremely positive.  We are quite excited.

My own daughter...had some time on it...and she loved it.  She liked that it was easy to figure out on her own.  I just gave it to her and said 'go for it'.  She said she would definitely use it at the high school level in her English, Social Studies, and Science classes.  I know that [the high school] is purchasing the Neo2 for their resource rooms but the Fusion is the Cadillac of units and can't be compared to the Neo2 for what they do."

"...I called the learning assistance teachers who are practicing with the two Fusions you so kindly left us for the month. Most are finding it great to work with and one teacher even called it "phenomenal". It seems to be a great motivator for some kids with written output difficulties...."

"I have been teaching summer school for two years in a program where I teach average students with LD or other written output difficulties how to use a dedicated word processor with word prediction to aid them in written expression.  Then the students continue to use the device in the next year at school.  So, I have investigated the Fusion portable keyboard in depth, and this is what I have found out…

I like the Fusion for a number of reasons:

  • The Fusion is very easy to learn and use. It comes with a one page Operation Hot Sheet which is really all you need to know to use the device.
  • It has a large screen which can show ten lines of print at a time.  It is easy to change the font size.
  • It comes with a powerful word prediction program that is easy to use.  It lists the word prediction choices at the bottom of the screen.  It predicts words based on phonetic spelling, grammar and usage.
  • Files are transferred from the Fusion to a computer by way of  an infrared receiver that comes with the Fusion, and plugs into a USB port on any computer without the need for additional software.
  • The dictionary, thesaurus and spell check features in the Fusion are easy to use and understand.
  • When you upload and print a document from the Fusion, it automatically prints the student’s name, date, teacher’s name and file name.  This is a helpful time saver for many students who struggle with written output.
  • The Fusion helps students organize their work.  When students log in to their password protected desktop, all of their named files and folders are displayed.
  • The Fusion comes with a built in typing tutor program.  This is great because kids that use a keyboard need to improve their typing skills in order to optimize use of the keyboard for written output.
  • The Fusion comes with 6 writing checklists that can be printed at the end of the student’s work.
  • The optional text to voice feature is good for many students.  It will also read the word prediction selections.  The Fusion reads through headphones or external speakers.
  • The Fusion comes with a compact flash expansion memory port.  An optional compact flash card and card reader /writer can be purchased at a low price.

If I teach the writing program in summer school again, I will definitely be requesting that the school district purchase Fusions for the use of the students in the program."
